Bank Holiday Building .....

After the past few posts that have been messages to people I though it was time to write a propper post about the weekend. (Well the last 4 days anyhow!)

The house is coming on really well, most of the building work (demolision) is now complete and the pile of the rubble in the backgarden is growing and growing.. We really could do with a skip before we do much more!

The extension is now accessable from the house with the downstairs toilet knocked through from the hallway, the first floor now has some flooring down with access through what was the old serperate toilet, the cupboard under the stairs can now be accessed from inside the hallway, and the other side is now bricked up. The only problem with the work we have done this weekend is that everything is covered in brick dust! It gets everywhere! ! !

I'll try to get some before and after pictures sorted out this week when I get some time. I have Go-karting tomrrow night with work, then Wednesday is the RAF v's Army rugby game, so I'll head up to that and enjoy a few beers! :O)

Antipode's

Out of interest I sent a text through to the AQA service
http://www.issuebits.com/
The service tries to answer your questions.

Question: If I drilled a hold down from Newbury through the core and kept going where which Country / town would I end up in?

A few minutes passed....

Answer: If you drilled a hold down through Newbury, you wouldn't arrive in a country. You would accelerate to the centre and burn up in the fiery molten core.

I though that this was a bit of a cop out, obviously the student who was answering the question couldn't be arsed to do a little research and learn something about it!, so this is dedicated to the lazy student who couldn't be arsed to answer the question and came back with a sarcastic answer...

Firstly you need to know the Latitude and Longitude of the start location. In this instance I used Newbury Racecourse which is located at N51°23.45, W001°17.59.

There is a little bit of software on the net that will convert this to the opposite.
http://www2.comp.polyu.edu.hk/~04329143d/Location.html

The location then comes out as:

51°23'45"S
178°42'1"E

Using google earth you can enter the co-ordinates, this puts you South of New Zealand towards Antarctica. The nearest Island is aptly named Antipodes island with list 118 miles north of Newbury's actual Antipode.
http://www.70south.com/resources/antarctic-islands/antipodes

So the proper answer should have been

You would actually enter the South Pacific Sea, approximately 118miles south of the Antipodes Islands.

During the research a friend of mine also came up with the same answer but also found out that it would take you 42 minutes to fall through the earth! As you pass through the geographic centre of the earth you would be weightless and travelling at around 17,700 mph! You would need to be caught as you exited the hole otherwise you would fall back through the hole and head back to your start point.

So overall quite an interesting morning :O)
Cheers Alex for you added research on this! :O)

A spare moment - and a message...

Well finally the moon is aligned, Saturn is in the right section of the sky and my Manager has gone to a meeting....

The weekend was as usual spent at the house trying to get things a little more sorted. We finally managed to get the garage secure, which inolved a little bodging and drilling loads of holes!

Were hoping that the plumber will be along today to work out the design for the new central heating system. Hopefully this will get moving soon! The house is pretty cold just now. I guess the heating system is at about 1/3rd of its heating capability, and the whole place seems cold most of the time due to the lack of ceilings on the ground floor.

I did have a slight 'incident' on Saturday with a complete twat and his inability to observe the rules of the road... If your reading this and your an old codger with a shite Mitsubishi Galant and was "cut up" by a Peugeot 206cc that was actually in the correct lane to turn right at the garden centre roundabout in Thatcham on Saturday I have a belated message for you. (as it is always the way that what you say at the time never comes out quite right..)

I would like to address a few issues with regard to your actions and what you said at the time. . .

1. The right lane leading onto the roundabout is clearly marked with a right turn arrow. The left lane is for Left turns or straight on. You are not Michael Schumacher more like Michael Pacemaker...

2. I did not cut you up. I mearly ensured that you were educated that you could not turn right from the lefthand land again.

3. On the discussion of me needing to get a propper car? All I can say is that if I was in my car (Van) you would have been run off the road... Also... Mitsubishi have only ever made one good car... and it's not the Galant.

4. Your wife is really ugly and hopefully bollocked you for stopping in the middle of the A4 to have an argument with someone who could have quite easily kicked you ass to Reading.

5. Tweed jackets are most definatly out, as are nodding dogs.

In the future I would be most grateful if you would familiarise yourself with driving regulations, or at least observe road signs. . . Perhaps let your ugly wife drive as she coudln't do any worse than you.

Cyclists....

Now, I'm all for green travel and enjoy riding my bike...

However.... On my way to work this morning I was in the van (as I needed to be at a different office) The traffic was pretty light as it's half term and all the school traffic stays home to watch the tweenies...

Despite the easy traffic it still took ages as several cyclists insisted on riding in the road... This wouldn't normally be a problem, but Newbury has a great network of cycle paths along most of the main routes..
it really peeves me to see some complete tw@t thinking that it's his god given right to use the road, which is not only dangerous but bloody anoying for motorists....

I pay council tax... cyclists pay council tax, part of which is spent on the cycle paths.... So why do these people think that they don't need to use them???

So I say get your moneys worth!! Use the fu**ing cycle paths and leave the road (where possible) for the motorists who pay a seperate tax to use the roads...

Any comments welcome on this... What do you think??
